Former business manager charged with second degree theft

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department filed a charge of second-degree theft today against Cindy Steege of North Liberty. Steege, the former business manager of the Mid-Prairie Community School District, was cited in connection with approximately $8,000 in charges on a Mid-Prairie credit card. In late June, school district officials became aware of possible financial irregularities.  After conducting an internal investigation, on June 30 District officials notified the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the State Auditor’s Office of possible theft of public monies.
