Iowa code says county must have architect for proposed Orchard Hill remodeling
By Mary Zielinski
Remodeling at least two buildings at the county-owned Orchard Hill complex requires a certified architect, the supervisors learned Tuesday.
Initially, Supervisor Larry DeLong said he thought the county could simply get quotes for the work, “but the state law required a license architect/engineer.â€
He had earlier estimated that the work, which would provide, among other things, space for the county’s environmental health department and the sheriff’s department, would be $100,000 to $150,000.
DeLong said he would “talk to Martin Design,†the firm that did the county building assessment needs to review and “come back with a plan.â€
He said the cost for architectural services “could be $1,000 or $10,000. I don’t know.â€
DeLong said he had obtained some quotes for the proposed remodeling work, but until there is an architect to “sign off†on the plan, no action can be taken.
