Deadline to apply for the newly created Washington County Zoning Administrator position is 4:30 p.m. April 23, and the Board of Supervisors estimates it could have as many as 70 applicants.
The board, at its meeting Tuesday, set the deadline and agreed on review and interviewing procedures for what will be a $35,000 to $45,000 full-time job, possibly based in the county engineer’s office.
The job is the direct result of the board passing, by a 3-2 vote, a countywide zoning ordinance that takes effect July 1. The board hopes to have the zoning administrator hired at its May 3 meeting.
Advertisements for the job have been sent to area newspapers and publications as well a to radio media, noted board member Jim Rosien. Rosien and superivisors Steve Davis were the two who voted against the zoning ordinance.
The board agreed that the applications will be reviewed by a committee consisting of two supervisors, possibly Wes Rich and Rosien, County Sanitarian Jeff Thomann, and representatives from the engineer’s office and the auditor’s office. There may be others since the board agreed those who will work with the administrator should be involved in selecting the person who will fill the office.
County Auditor Bill Fredrick said that “some spread sheets could be worked up,” that would allow rating candidates in various categories, and Supervisor Adam Mangold suggested using the interview procedures recently used for hiring two new county deputies. However, it was noted the jobs are quite different.
