Thomas L. Allen, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, August 9, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a lingering illness.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. in Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona, Iowa, with Pastor Beth Miller officiating. Visitation is Saturday, August 23 from 12:30 until the service time. Burial will be at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Kinross, Iowa. Condolences may be sent to www.peterseimfuneralhome.com.
Thomas L. Allen was born December 8, 1935, in Wellman, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Alverda (Marek) Allen. He was a 1954 graduate of Wellman High School. He was retired from US West Telephone Company after 35 years of service. He was united in marriage to Mary Della Ballard September 7, 1963. He enjoyed card playing, woodworking, collecting Hummel figurines, collecting coins, and photography.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Mary Della Allen, Cedar Rapids; a son, Anthony and his wife Melynda Allen, Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Angela Allen, Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Aurora, Juston, Kaylyn, and Ambrose; two brothers, Michael and his wife, Becky Allen, Wellman; Gerald “Joe” Allen, Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Patricia and her husband Gerald Morse, Muscatine, Iowa; and Molly Allen, Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marlyn Allen and Larry Allen; and a sister, Jane McCartt.
