Marjorie Blum, 85, a resident of Pioneer Park Care Center in Lone Tree, Iowa, died there Thursday, November 20, 2008, following an extended illness.
A celebration of life service was held Sunday, November 23, 2008, in the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman, Iowa. Chaplain Donnita Payne-Hostetler officated. Marjorie Martin was born May 20, 1923, in Galva, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Estelle (Bullock) Martin. She was united in marriage to Jack C. Rickerd August 27, 1938. He was killed in a truck accident September 27, 1943. She was united in marriage to Marion Blum August 20, 1945. He died July 29, 1979. Mrs. Blum was a homemaker all of her life. She worked on the farm alongside her husband, Marion Blum, until his death. She enjoyed playing cards, doing crafts, and going to garage sales. Most important to her was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by six children, Dan (Nancy) Rickerd, Lone Tree; Jackie (Carroll Kenney) Blum, Kalona, Iowa; Bill (Mickey) Blum, Crawfordsville, Iowa; Bob (Sandy) Blum, Wellman; Nancy Baker, Woodbine, Iowa; Terry (Danette) Blum, Wellman; nine grandchildren Bob (Robin) Schulty; Dawn (Pat) Cazin, Denise (Larry) Thurman, Jerri (Jim) Kron; Ruchel (Don) Hiller; Leslie (Nicholas) Duvall; David (Danalea) Blum; Steve Blum; and Craig Blum; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl (Mae) Martin, Columbus Junction, Iowa; her extended family grandchildren Christy and husband Mark, Kenny, Danny, Tami and fiancé Dave; and Derik and wife Shelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Jack Rickerd and Marion Blum; sisters Hazel Shinn and Fran Moyer; a brother, Kenny Martin; a brother-in-law, Ray Moyer; a son-in-law, Dwight Baker; and a great-granddaughter, Chloe Plank.
