Mary C. Hanrahan, 82, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Friday, January 16, 2009, in Iowa City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
As she wished, Mrs. Hanrahan’s body has been cremated. There will be a family memorial at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa City Animal Shelter. Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Bireline was born May 5, 1926, in Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of Cyril and Esther (Smith) Bireline. She was a graduate of Iowa City High School. March 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Robert Hanrahan in Iowa City. She worked at Economy Advertising, Eagle Supermarket, and then cooked at many of the family’s bars. Mrs. Hanrahan lived on the Iowa River for many years and enjoyed wildlife. She was an accomplished cook and an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan. Her Springer Spaniels were always part of her family.
She is survived by her four children, Mike (Karla) Hanrahan, Wellman, Iowa; Pat Hanrahan, Iowa City; Tim (Erin) Hanrahan, Bemidji, Minnesota; and Pam (Bob) Hanes, Iowa City; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Marilyn, Virginia, and Barb; and a special friend, Barbara Langenberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Hanrahan; and a grandson, Brandon.
