Wilma Jean Hohenshell

Wilma Jean Hohenshell, 87, formerly of Wellman, Iowa, died suddenly Wednesday, January 21, 2009, in the Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.
A celebration of life service was held Saturday, January 24, 2009, in the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Rev. Rich Pippert officiated. Burial was in the Wellman Cemetery. Wilma Jean Morrow was born January 13, 1922, on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Valentine, South Dakota, the daughter of William Keith and Lulu (Parks) Morrow. Her family moved to Kinross, Iowa, in her youth. She was a graduate of Kinross High School. August 13, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lewis E. Hohenshell in the Christian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked for Maplecrest for 10 years, then worked at teh University of Iowa Hospital as a Dietary Supervisor for 25 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. and Mrs. Hohenshell lived in Wellman for more than 60 years. Mrs. Hohenshell moved to the Halcyon House in February 2005. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Wellman, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Cubs fan, and she enjoyed playing bingo.
Mrs. Hohenshell is survived by a son, Larry (Linda) Hohenshell, Ankeny, Iowa; two daughters, Connie (Lain) Messer, Washington; and Patricia (Harry) Karnes, Washington; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis, December 29, 2008; and a sister, Leora LeFever.
