James Victor Bowen

James Victor “Vic” Bowen, 72, of rural Keota, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009, near Rose Hill, Iowa. 
A memorial services was Saturday, August 15, 2009, in Powell Funeral Home, Keota, with Rev. Marlene Janssen officiating. Burial was in the Keota Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been been established for Iowa Chapter 5 International Harvestor Collectors Club, Central Iowa Two-Cylindar Club, or Wayland Area Antique Tractor Club. James Victor Bowen was born April 29, 1937, in the Happy Hollow family farm home, the only child of James C. and Naomi Opal (West) Bowen. He attended Hardscrabble and Keota Elementary schools and was a 1954 graduate of Columbus Junction High School. He attended college for two years before returning home to farm. He served in the Iowa National Guard for eight years. November 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Nancy Tompkins in Kahoka, Missouri. The couple lived in North Carolina where Mr. Bowen farmed and worked at Dayco Southern in Waynesville before returning to the Keota area to farm in 1968. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and had a lifelong love of crops and the land. He especially enjoyed antique tractors and machinery. He was a charter member of the Iowa Chapter 5 International Harvester Collectors Club, Central Hawkeye Gas Engine and Tractor Association, and Iowa Tractor Pullers Association.
Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife, Nancy Bowen, Keota; two children, Robin Marie Potts and husband, Tracy, Kingwood, Texas; and Jeffrey James Bowen, Keota; and four grandchildren, Eric, Michelle, Brian, and Nicole.
He was preceded in death by his father in January 1990 and his mother in December 2007.
