The IMS girls’ basketball team opened the 2007-08 season at the Mid-Prairie Jamboree against Belle Plaine Friday, November 16. A core of juniors leads the young team in the absence of the only returning senior, Nicole Ropp, who was reinjured during the volleyball season.
The team returns two full-time starters from last year, juniors Kelsey Schrock and Elizabeth Miller. Also returning is sophomore Nicole Hershberger who was pressed into a starting role last season after a season-ending injury to Ropp.
Juniors Allison Bontrager and Samantha Beachy round out the starting five for the IMS squad. Coming off the bench to provide valuable minutes were juniors Haley Schlabaugh, Anna Spencer, and Missy Warner, sophomore Kerri Hostetler, and freshman Emma Yutzy.
The team was led in scoring by Kelsey Schrock who was two for three from the three-point line and three for six from the free throw line for a total of nine points.
Miller added six points, shooting three for four from the floor. Bontrager contributed three assists in the 22-15 loss.
Tanna Boshart is in her third season as head coach of the IMS squad. Keith Hostetler will be assisting Boshart and coaching the junior varsity team. The team will begin conference play November 27 when they are hosts to Lone Tree. The JV game will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the varsity game.
