Parkside on schedule, on budget

Parkside Activities Center is set to open August 1, a firm date since there is a $500 per day penalty for each day beyond the contracted completion. Although there have been some change orders, City Administrator Dave Ross said construction is on schedule. The approximate $6 million facility, the single largest public building in Wellman’s history, will provide for recreational, meeting and childcare services. Besides $1 million from the city and $2 from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, the project received some $900,000 in local private donations, $800,000 from Vision Iowa, and approximately $500,000 in federal grants. Groundbreaking took place this spring and officials said there will be a grand opening for the town’s grandest new building.
