Supervisors set work session for budget discussion

The Washington County Board of Supervisors Monday set a special work session for 9 a.m., Monday, December 22, to discuss budget recommendations for fiscal 2009-10. The supervisors indicated that they could reach a consensus for action on a recommendation for their regular meeting Tuesday, December 23. Other county departments may attend the work session.
The budget discussions likely will continue well into next year. The budget has to be certified by March 15.
In other business Monday, the board approved an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for Living Roadway Trust Fund (lRTF) funds for roadside plantings along a half-mile of 133rd street, off Highway 1, near Kalona. County allocation is $6,779, primarily for seed.
Landowners Steve Rich and Jerry Rediger will do the maintenance, similar to the arrangement the county did some years ago with James Cuddeback. The county will do the seed planing early next fall, said Jake Hotchkiss of the county engineerÕs office. He added that most of the funds will be for the seed, and that once the plants are established, Òit is very easy to take care of.Ó
