New Business in Washington Industrial Park

The Washington Economic Development Group (WEDG) announced Monday that Montchevre Betin, Inc. has purchased 2.75 acres of industrial ground in the Washington Industrial Park. Montchevre produces goat cheese at a facility in Belmont, Wisconsin, and plans to establish a transfer station in Washington for goat milk to feed their production operation.

We hope that this project will increase opportunities for goat milk producers in the area

Construction of the facility will take place this summer. Montchevre acquired the site with a view to possible future expansion of their operation.
WEDG Director Ed Raber said, “We have been in contact with Montchevre for the past six months, and the WEDG Board of Directors are pleased to see that they are making this expansion decision. TheÊ Washington County area is a prime location for specialized value-added agriculture businesses like Montchevre. There is a surprising diversity of livestock grown around the County, including goats for meat and for milk. “We hope that this project will increase opportunities for goat milk producers in the area.”
Master cheese-maker, and Montchevre Vice-President, Jean Rossard said, “Our cheeses are made from fresh, prime quality goat milk from farms in “Wisconsin and Iowa. Montchevre is always 100% natural. We use no preservatives or artificial flavorings. Montchevre goat cheese has almost one half the amount of fat calories and saturated fat as cream cheese, and 2% more calcium.”
Montchevre has won many national and international awards for its products, including the Best of Class for their Plain Fresh Goat Cheese at the 2008 World Championship Cheese Contest.
