Council makes annual commission appointments
by Mary Coblentz
Annual appointments to various commissions were made by the Wellman City Council Monday in a brief meeting.
Mary Lee Ehrenfelt replaced Kim Parrott as the rural representative for the Library Board. Francis Brenneman replaced Gene Scott on the Library Board.
Joe Weamer replaced Vera Yoder, and Dennis Nygaard replaced Betty Nicholls on the Senior Dining Commission.
For the Planning and Zoning Commission, Jay Thrapp and Dennis Lampe replaced Wayne Wasson and Jack Baker.
Jarred Kinsinger replaced Larry Thurman on the Board of Adjustments.
The council approved a resolution to enter into a contract with the Heritage Area Agency on Aging for the Goodwin Senior Dining nutrition program for fiscal year 2010.
City Clerk Donna Wade noted that the contract is for less money coming from Heritage for the program. “They got their funding cut,” Wade said, “We’ll probably have to come up with” additional funds for the center. We’re still a little short for this year.”
In other business, the council:
- approved a resolution approving a plat change for Bill and Clara Bontrager. The Bontragers will divide their property, selling part with the existing house and will build another house on the other part of the property. The change was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission;
- approved a resolution approving a plat change for Sandra Schauf. Schauf owns three adjoining lots and needed to reconfigure the lots because she wants to sell one and keep a building that is partially on the lot she wants to sell. The Planning and Zoning Commission also approved this change;
- corrected an oversight by approving a resolution to pay Anita Kanagy a salary of $10.30 per hour for the position of senior dining center cook;
- learned that it would be possible to install a speed bump at Circle Drive where some drivers run the stop sign; and
- thanked those who helped make Wellman’s Independence Day celebration possible.
The council cancelled a planned work session that was to be held prior to the regular meeting Monday because council members Marc Pennington and Steve Slaubaugh were unable to attend.
