Wellman man dies in accident

James Loren (J. J.) Vest III, 19, of Wellman died following a one-vehicle accident at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday, October 4, at the intersection of Larch Avenue and 110th Street near Kalona.
According to the police report, the accident occurred after a brief pursuit by a Washington County Deputy. Vest was extricated from his vehicle, which had overturned, and transported by Air Care helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City with serious injuries. He was later pronounced dead at University Hospital.
The accident is under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
Emergency units who responded to the scene were personnel from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Washington County Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, Kalona First Responders and the Kalona Fire Department. See Obituary
