Jimmie Lloyd Whetstine was born March 19, 1934, in Wellman, the son of Lloyd and Lula Farris Whetstine. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 until 1956. Following his return from service, he worked at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, for more than 10 years. He was united in marriage to Beverly Dawn Tellin September 14, 1962, in Wellman. He was employed at Highway Equipment and at Iowa Manufacturing, both in Iowa City. He worked at the University of Iowa Physical Plant as a custodian for many years until his retirement in 1001. He enjoyed listening to country music, doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, and in his earlier years hunting and fishing.
Mr. Whetstine is survived by his wife, Bev Whetstine; his children, Terry Walrich, Longmont, Colorado; Luanna (Jim) Bahmler, Wellman; Joseph Whetstine, North Liberty; and Michelle (Ken) McCracken, Kalona, Iowa; four grandchildren, Anthony, Erica, Zachary, and Ian; and a brother, Donald Whetstine, Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dale Whetstine, Merle Whetstine, Emery Whetstine, Marvin Whetstine, and Bill Whetstine; and two sisters, Kathlee Davis and Marguerite West.
