Geraldine Margaret Schulty, 96, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, in the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a brief illness.
Mass of the Resurrection was held Saturday, July 11, 2009, in St. James Church in Washington with Fr. Paul Appel officiating. Interment was in the Wellman Cemetery, Wellman, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to St. James Catholic Church. Online condolences may be to www.jonesfh.com.
Geraldine Margaret Schulty was born July 27, 1912, in Pilotburg, Iowa, the daughter of Orville Paul and Mary Henrietta (Patterson) Schulty. She was a graduate of Wellman High School and attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. She taught three years in rural schools before becoming a bank teller at the National Bank of Washington. She worked at the National Bank for 30 years until her retirement in 1977. She was also the bookkeeper at Richard George Salon for many years. Miss Schulty was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Toastmasters, the Business and Professional Women, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Altar and Rosary Society. Earlier, she served on the board of the Washington Community Y and the American Cancer Society. She received the HACAP Volunteer Award for Washington County, the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award for Area 10, Outstanding Toastmaster award, and several contest awards.
She is the last of her immediate family.
Miss Schulty was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Islea Schulty; and one brother, Donald Schulty.
