Funeral services were held Monday, July 20, 2009, in the First Baptist Church in Wellman, Iowa, wtih Pastor Michael Lynch officiating. Burial was in the Wellman Cemetery. Messages may be sent to the family at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
Pauline Miller was born January 19, 1924, in Windom, Kansas, the daughter of Roy and Margaret (Kauffman) Miller. She was a graduate of Windom High School. May 20, 1943, she was united in marriage to Wallace G. Swartzendruber in Hutchinson, Kansas. The couple made their home in Wellman. In March of 1978, Mr. Swartzendruber and their son, Jon, died in an airplane crash in Arizona. Mrs. Swartzendruber moved to Hesston, Kansas, in 1979; she returned to Iowa in 1991, living in North Liberty. She moved to Iowa City in 1995. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Iowa City. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Bob Swartzendruber and his wife, Becky, Wellman; Sylvia Kruse and her husband, Harold, Parnell, Iowa; Emma Werner, Iowa City; Phil Swartzendruber, Iowa City; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace Swartzendruber; a son, Jon Swartzendruber; two brothers, Waldo Miller and Wilmer Miller; and two sisters, Verna Detweiler and Elizabeth Hershberger.
