Sarah Miller Helmuth, 82, of Kalona, Iowa, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at her home in rural Kalona. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Sharon Bethel Church in rural Kalona. Ministers in charge were Jacob Yoder, Delmar Bontrager and Gabriel Beachy. Burial was in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona was in charge of the arrangements. Sarah Mast was born August 30, 1927, in Kokomo, Indiana, the daughter of Menno and Katie (Schlabach) Mast. She grew up in Indiana and moved to Iowa in 1945. October 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edward F. Miller in Kalona. The couple made their home in rural Kalona where Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. The couple spent two years involved in mission work in the Ukraine. Mr. Miller died in September of 2006. September 29, 2007 she was united in marriage to Eli C. Helmuth in Kalona. Mr. Helmuth died in October of 2008. Mrs. Helmuth was a member of the Sharon Bethel Church.
She is survived by six children, David Lee Miller (Martha), Kalona; Lucy Stoltzfoos (Roman), Kinzers, Pennyslvania; Elaine Miller, Kalona; Evelyn Miller (Steve), Hutchinson, Kansas; Nancy Miller, Iowa City, Iowa; Louise Miller, Kalona; stepson, L.J. Helmuth (RoseMary), Whiteville, Tennessee; 26 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Hershberger (Mark), Kalona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Edward Miller and Eli Helmuth; three sons, Arden, and infants Raymond and Howard; a daughter, Mary Catherine Miller; three brothers, David Mast, Andrew Mast, and infant Abraham Mast; and two sisters, Esther Mast and infant Susanna Mast.
