Regina over Mid-Prairie

by Coach Marc Pennington
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks were soundly defeated by the Iowa City Regina Regals 73-31 Friday in Iowa City. Regina shot a blistering 60 percent from the field while forcing the Golden Hawks into 27 turnovers.
Regina raced out to an 18-point half time lead and gradually extended their command in the second half. Mid-Prairie was limited to just 25 shots and shot just seven for 18 from the free throw line.
Missy Hershberger turned in another solid performance in a losing cause tallying 22 points, six rebounds, and three steals. The only other Hawks to score were Cari Brenneman with five and Cindra Bombei and Jodee Seward wtih two points each.
We ran into a buzz-saw tonight and didn’t come close to matching their intensity from the opening tip. We struggled with their pressure as evident by shooting only 25 shots compared to committing 27 turnovers.
Hopefully the girls will come back and get after things a little bit, as we have two more tough games this week.
In a losing cause, I thought Missy Hershberger gave an outstanding effort. She scored, rebounded, defended, and was the primary ball handler for most of the evening and only committed three turnovers. We just need more contributions from more girls to have a chance to be successful.
Mid-Prairie stats: Jodee Seward 1 0-0 2, 1 steal, 1 deflection, 2 assists; Missy Hershberger 9 4-7 22, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 deflection, 1 assist; Kristyn Dorschner 1 steal; Sara Young 2 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 deflections; Cindra Bombei 0 2-2 4, 2 rebounds, 1 deflection; Cari Brenneman 2 1-8 5, 1 rebound, 1 steal, 1 deflection.
