IMS boys roll over WACO
by Coach Dwight Gingerich
IMS gained a big conference win with a strong performance over the WACO Warriors, taking a 58-33 victory on Tuesday in Hillcrest Union.
IMS led 12-7 after a hard-played first quarter by both squads. An Ethan Gingerich three off a Jesse Ney assist at the buzzer gave IMS the 30-16 half-time margin. IMS then controlled the second half, outscoring the Warriors 16-5 in the third period to build a 46-21 lead heading into the final stanza.
IMS was paced by Jesse Ney’s 18 points on 8-15 from the floor, including a pair of treys. Danny Hershberger came through with another double-double, racking up 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jacob Yoder scored seven points, Brant Kapple had six, and Aaron Erb and Ethan Gingerich each tallied five points. Truman Shetler and David Yoder added two points each to complete the scoring. Jackson Brokaw had five assists and two steals, and Gingerich had five assists. Kapple and Ney added six and four rebounds, respectively.
Coach Dwight Gingerich said “we didn’t shoot real well from beyond the arc, but our ball movement and our two-point field goal percentage of 68 percent was very good. We are starting to play together at both ends much better, and we are playing much harder defensively. Aaron Erb did an outstanding job holding their leading scorer without a basket, and our other defenders deserve credit as well. We held their other two top scorers without baskets in the second half after letting them get loose in the first half, so our defense is getting better and our team play is improving.”
IMS goes to 9-0 on the season and next plays at home on Friday against Louisa-Muscatine, followed by a game at Keokuk on Saturday.
