Mid-Prairie girls crush Wilton

by Coach Marc Pennington
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks girls’ basketball team shot a season-high 50 percent and scored a season-high 59 points in a 59-24 victory over Wilton Tuesday, January 13, at Wilton.
The Hawks jumped out to a 17-0 first quarter lead, and the game was never closer than that the rest of the way. Mid-Prairie used a solid night on the backboard as well as they out-rebounded the Beavers 34-20.
Leading the way for the Hawks was Missy Hershberger with 17 points, 16 rebounds, and three steals. Also in double digits was Jodee Seward with 14 points and four steals.
Other contributors included Cari Brenneman with eight points and five rebounds; Seneca Cuddeback with seven points; Kristyn Dorscher with five; Cindra Bombei with four points, four rebounds, and three assists; and Erin Cayton and Megan Adams each had two.
Each Golden Hawk in uniform saw action in the victory. The fifth consecutive win pushed the Hawks’ record to 6-5 overall, 5-1 in the Cedar Valley Conference.
Coach’s comments: This was our best four quarter game of the season to this point. Besides a small lapse at the end of the first half, I felt our girls stayed very focused and didn’t let up all night. We shot the ball very well, and I was very excited to see the aggressiveness rebounding the ball.
I felt our post players of Brenneman, Bombei, Hershberger, and Cayton really dominated the post and were the aggressors for most of the night.
I was very pleased with the way we started the game. We had been starting very slowly, but tonight we got off to a great start by keeping Wilton scoreless in the first quarter. And then we ended strong by outscoring them 17-3 in the fourth quarter.
We are playing with a lot of confidence right now and that is nice to see.
