Mid-Prairie gets overtime win against West Branch

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks boys’ basketball team defeated the West Branch Bears in overtime in the Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman Thursday, February 19. The final score was 58-51.
Drew Yoder had 18 points to lead Mid-Prairie’s scoring, and Tanner Miller scored 16 points in the win. Abe Kos scored nine points.
Mid-Prairie head coach Don Showalter said, “This was a classic tourney game with two teams who battled to overtime before the game was decided.
“We hit nine of 10 free throws in the overtime period to put the game away. Abe Kos hit two free throws early in the overtime to put us up by one and then after a missed shot, Kos hit on a three-point shot from the wing to put us up by 4.
“This was the turning point for us. Tanner Miller then made seven of eight free throws in the last two minutes to make sure we ended on top.
“Drew Yoder was tremendous the first half as he made 15 of his 18 points to keep the game close.
“Tanner Miller scored all his 16 points in the second half. Ryan Gent pulled down some key rebounds late in the game.
“Kaleb Duwa also made a timely three point shot for us in the fourth quarter. We got some excellent minutes from Cody Bontrager who hit a three pointer in the first half as well as Mark Aldeman, Colton Wilson, Michael Aldeman, Christian Boehmer and Quinn Hollan.
“Our turnovers were only 13 which is a credit to our guards for taking care of the ball.”
The Golden Hawks’ record stands at 18-5.
