MP FB Earns 28-6 Homecoming Win

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks football team defeated Columbus Junction 28-6 in its 2009 homecoming game at Sattler Field in Wellman Friday, October 9.
Mid-Prairie scored first on an eight-yard pass from Mark Aldeman to Michael Aldeman. Tanner Miller’s kick was good for the 7-0 lead.
The second quarter was scoreless. Mid-Prairie scored three times in the third quarter. Mark Aldeman connected with Michael Aldeman on a 60-yard pass play with 11:11 left in the quarter. Miller’s kick was good, and the Golden Hawks led 14-0.
With 8:39, Miller ran 50-yards for a touchdown, and he kicked the PAT for a 21-0 lead. Micah Berg intercepted the ball in Columbus’ next possession, running it 39 yards for the Golden Hawks’ last touchdown of the game with 7:01 left in the third quarter.
Columbus got on the board with 1:44 left in the third quarter on a 10-yard pass play. The PAT attempt was no good, and the final score was 28-6.
Columbus led in first downs (15 to Mid-Prairie’s nine), rushing yards (241 to 131), total offense (268-204), and possession time (34:26 to 10:59), but the Mid-Prairie defense made key plays to put a stop to the Wildcats. Columbus was in the red zone only twice, scoring once.
