IMS CC Boys Take 1st Place

The IMS boys cross country team took first place in the eight team field at the Lake Darling Classic October 15. The young men in maroon outdistanced second place Lone Tree by 33 points. Bill Spencer and Truman Shetler were the first two finishers on the 4500 meter course. “We had six finishers in the top 20. Nearly everyone had a good race. The usual course was muddy so the race was held on the park road. It was not your usual cross country race but it was good to get another race in one week before districts. Another difference tonight was the absence of a JV race. All high school boys ran in the same race.” The team will attempt to qualify for the state meet at the 1A district held near Wapello Thursday, October 22. The meet begins at 4 p.m.

The times were fast on the 3700 meter asphalt course. Elana Gingerich had a strong race moving up through the field to finish in fifth place. Madeline Miller was not far behind in tenth place. “Our girls ran well tonight. They each have improved throughout the season, especially our back of the pack runners.” Ella Feldman of Lone Tree was the individual titlist.
