FB: Mid-Prairie 47 – WBND 7
The first half was a contest, but the second half was a free-for-all scoring fest for Mid-Prairie Friday, October 23, when the Golden Hawks defeated West Burlington-Notre Dame 47-7 at Wellman in the final game of the regular season.
WBND scored in the first quarter with 5:59 left on a 64-yard pass play. The PAT attempt was good, and West Burlington enjoyed a 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Tanner Miller scored a touchdown on a 75-yard run with 10:01 remaining in the half. His kick was good, and the score was tied.
The Golden Hawks scored four times in the third quarter. Just three minutes into the second half, Miller scored a touchdown after a 16-yard run. The PAT was no good. With 6:12 left in the quarter, Zach Murphy recovered a fumble in the end zone for another M-P touchdown. Miller’s kick was blocked, and Mid-Prairie had a 19-7 lead.
With 4:56 remaining in the third quarter, Zach Passmore broke loose and ran 51 yards for a touchdown. Miller’s kick was good. With 2:)9 left in the quarter, Passmore scored another touchdown, this one on a 19-yard pass play from Mark Aldeman. Miller’s kick was good, and Mid-Prairie led 33-7 going into the last quarter.
Brody Barthelman scored a touchdown on a one-yard rush with 5:19 left in the game. Miller’s kick was good. To add insult to injury, Micah Berg returned an interception 42 yards for the final touchdown of the game with 3:36 left. Miller’s kick was good for the final 47-7 score.
Mid-Prairie dominated the running game, gaining 303 yards to West Burlington’s 64 yards. WBND had the edge in the air with 124 yards to Mid-Prairie’s 60 yards, but WBND threw three interceptions to Mid-Prairie’s one. West Burlington lost three fumbles, and Mid-Prairie lost one.
Mid-Prairie (7-2) will face Center Point-Urbana (8-3) in a substate game Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m. in Wellman. The winner of that game will face the winner of the Solon vs. Mediapolis game at Solon November 2.
