M-P Hawks lose to Solon

submitted by Marc Pennington
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks completed their pre-Holiday schedule with a 48-30 loss at number nine Solon December 22. The Hawks battled toe-to-toe with the highly ranked Spartans for 16 minutes, trailing by just 2 at the half. “We battled a very tough, highly ranked team for a half. I thought we did a good job of making the extra pass in the first half and of breaking the press,” said coach Marc Pennington. Solon turned up the pressure in the third quarter outscoring Mid-Prairie 19-8. The Hawks were led by freshman Olivia Lugar with 10 points and Mallory McArtor with 8. Also breaking the scoring column were Erin Cayton, Erika Murphy and Mariah Swartzentruber, all with 4.
“I am very pleased with our progress in most areas. We are continuing to struggle with consistency and ball security, but we knew those would be issues early in the year,” said coach Pennington. “Now after seven games, it is extremely important that the girls come back after break with a renewed energy to try and continue to improve and hopefully play our best ball at the end of the year.”
The Hawks currently stand at 1-6.
