IMS Girls vs. L-M

by Michelle Wade
Iowa Mennonite girls’ basketball went to Louisa-Muscatine Friday, January 15, for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference match-up with the Falcons who sit atop the North division.
IMS suffered a slow start, mustering only six points through the first quarter, but fought their way back into the game in the second period of play, getting to within 11 at 12-23. A scoring run by L-M and inadvertent fouls for Iowa Mennonite gave the Falcons a 39-12 advantage at the break.
The second half would be all L-M, while IMS would only manage 30 total points. The defense for the ladies in black did step forward in the fourth quarter and only allowed four points to their opponent, ending in a 64-30 loss.
IMS was led in scoring by junior Carly Unruh with 10 points, while juniors Mo Brenneman and Emma Yutzy and senior Nicole Hershberger added four apiece. Chipping in for two points each was senior Kerri Hostetler, junior Nicole Yoder, freshman Laura Hochstetler and junior Alise Gingerich.
Iowa Mennonite will have a busy finish to the season with multiple games post-poned due to weather. Thursday, a rescheduled game with Winfield-Mt. Union will pit both girls’ teams against the Wolves on IMS’s home floor. And Friday night, a triangular with Pekin High School. The girl’s will take the court at the conclusion of the JV Boys game at 6 p.m.
