M-P boys over Durant
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks boys’ basketball team defeated Durant at Durant 59-44 Tuesday, January 26.
Mid-Prairie coach Don Showalter said, “We came out and established a tempo quickly on defense and held a good lead throughout the game. Durant is a much improved team and can be a difficult match up for teams. We had to use a smaller line up at times for defensive purposes.
“I thought we did a nice job defensively as we held Durant to two quarters of single digits which is one of our goals.
“Another difference-maker is the 15 turnovers that our pressure caused for Durant and the 18 points we scored on their turnovers.
“We both made eight free throws which has been difficult for us to do – make as many free throws as our opponent.”
Mid-Prairie had a 16 to eight lead after one quarter and boasted a 27-20 halftime lead. They outscored the Wildcats 15-9 in the third quarter and 17 to 15 in the final quarter.
Michael Aldeman and Tanner Miller shared top-scoring honors with 19 points each with Aldeman hitting two from three-point range and Miller hitting six of six from the charity stripe.
Kaleb Duwa was the leading rebounder for Mid-Prairie with six.
