IMS Boys vs. Lone Tree

by Dwight Gingerich
Fifth-ranked IMS bounced back from a tough overtime loss to 3A Keokuk on Saturday, to defeat conference foe Lone Tree 67-34 Tuesday, in the friendly confines of Hillcrest Union.  A balanced scoring attack and stingy defense got the job done against the Lions, who trailed IMS 12-7 after one period.  IMS survived a turnover-plagued second quarter to increase the margin to 30-19 at the half.  IMS then dominated the third quarter, outscoring Lone Tree 20-6, to lead 50-25 going into the final period.
Truman Shetler was active on the night, picking up seven steals to go with seven rebounds, five assists, and 12 points.  Chance Miller was also busy, scoring 15 points to go with four steals, three rebounds, and four assists.  Jackson Brokaw played very well with seven points and five assists, while Jacob Yoder had three steals and eight points.  Ethan Gingerich had three steals and three assists to go with four points.
Brian Hagedorn scored six points and pulled down six rebounds, David Yoder scored four points to go with five rebounds, Brant Kapple scored seven points, and Sean Prihoda had four points and three assists.
Coach Dwight Gingerich said, “We didn’t attack Lone Tree’s pressure very well the first half, and our overall execution was a bit sporadic, though I thought we played hard.  I thought the concentration and execution was much better the second half, and we began to click at both ends.  A lot of people contributed, and it was great to see Brian, Sean, and Brant all play well inside.”
IMS goes to 11-1 overall with the win.  IMS next plays at home on Friday, in a match-up of the top two teams in the league.  IMS is 10-0 in conference play, while Pekin is 10-2.
