IMS Girls vs. Lone Tree

by Michelle Wade
Braving the foggy conditions and frozen tundra, the Iowa Mennonite girl’s basketball team hosted the Lions of Lone Tree for yet another dual in Southeast Iowa Super Conference play.
IMS came ready to play, jumping out to an early ten to seven lead through five minutes of play in the first quarter. At the end of the first period, the home team held a slight advantage 16-12. They then continued to score, upping the ante 18-14. However, the Lions managed a comeback with three minutes gone to take the lead (21-18). A lead they would never relinquish.
The third quarter was unfavorable to Iowa Mennonite, as turnovers resulted in Lone Tree scores and a 43-28 gap. IMS fought back later in the quarter to come within sixteen (46-30). With gassed legs and foul trouble hampering, Iowa Mennonite would fall to Lone Tree 58-36.
IMS scoring came from under the basket, as senior Nicole Hershberger and junior Carly Unruh tallied nine a piece. Unruh finished with four rebounds. Junior Mollie Ferguson converted for seven points, while classmate Emma Yutzy had five. Two points each from Laura Hochstetler (freshman), Linnea Slabaugh (senior), and Mo Brenneman (junior) rounded out the scoring for Iowa Mennonite.
