IMS Girls vs. Winfield
by Michelle Wade
The Iowa Mennonite girl’s basketball team hosted conference foe Winfield-Mt. Union Thursday night in a rescheduled game at Hillcrest Union. Icy conditions of the day before clung to IMS’s shooting effort through the first half, as they mustered only 15 points at the break. This score however, was only 11 behind the Wolves.
The first half deficit would prove too much for IMS to overcome in the second half of play, as they fell 52-37. Despite the ending score, Iowa Mennonite did find a bit of scoring rhythm late in the fourth quarter.
Iowa Mennonite was in scoring by juniors Emma Yutzy and Carly Unruh with nine points each. Senior Nicole Hershberger added eight from inside the paint. Two points a piece came from Mollie Ferguson (junior), Mo Brenneman (junior), Linnea Slabaugh (senior), Kerri Hostetler (senior), and Nicole Yoder (junior). A technical foul on WMU’s bench sent freshman Laura Hochstetler to line, where she knocked down one of two free throws.
