Mid-Prairie girls fall to Tipton

by Coach Marc Pennington
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks hung with the Tipton Tigers for a half before Tipton pulled away in the final half Friday, January 22, at Wellman. The final score was 40-58.
Mid-Prairie again struggled from the field and with costly turnovers.
Mid-Prairie was led by Taylor Hershberger with 11 points and six rebounds, Erika Murphy with eight points, and Jessie Butters with six points. Other scorers included Mariah Swartzentruber with four, Mallory McArtor 3, Kattie Redlinger, Olivia Lugar and Meghan Redlinger with two each, and Erin Cayton and Brittnee Stumpf with one each.
This game was the first annual “Pink Out.” Mid-Prairie wore pink uniforms and passed a collection can through the audience to raise money for and awareness of cancer.
Coach’s comments: We played a decent half but continue to struggle shooting the basketball on a consistent basis. We competed better and rebounded well, but we struggled containing their offense in the half court.
We would like to thank everyone that contributed to our Pink Out. We had a great crowd and the collection can raised $150 in donations that will go directly to the Washington County chapter of the American Cancer Society. It was a great night. Unfortunately we didn’t play as well as we would have hoped.
