Mid-Prairie tops Tipton

The Mid-Prairie boys’ basketball team squashed the Tipton Tigers at home Friday, January 22, 81-38. The Golden Hawks leaped out to a 14-3 lead after one quarter and didn’t look back.
Halftime score was 41-18. After three quarters, the lead was 66-28.
Fourteen Golden Hawks saw playing time, and 12 got in the scoring column. Leading all scorers was Tanner Miller with 26, shooting 72 percent from the field. Michael Aldeman was also in double figures with 11 points and had eight assists.
Mid-Prairie coach Don Showalter said, “This was probably one of our best overall games since Christmas both from the offensive and defensive standpoints as we started out controlling the game by playing great defense.
“We limited a much-improved Tipton team to only three points in the first quarter.
“I thought once again that Dylan Hochstetler really controlled the paint area by blocking shots and rebounding.  This allows us to play better pressure defense on the perimeter knowing that Dylan is ready to help.
“We moved the ball very well as shown by our assist total led by Michael Aldeman’s eight assists.  All of our players contributed tonight which is great – Christian Swartzentruber, Robbie Mostek, Ryan Harris, Jordan Yotty, Myles Coppes, Kyle Bontrager, Oliver Hassman and Aaron Smit all came off the bench for some very nice minutes.
“Tanner Miller continues to dominate both on the offensive end and defensive end of the court.  Mark Aldeman made some great decisions at the point guard spot and Quinn Hollan took the ball to the basket better than he has all season.  Kaleb Duwa played his best game probably since Christmas even though he has kind of a nagging shoulder injury.
“I think our team has adjusted to three season-ending injuries that would have helped us a great deal  - Micah Berg, Christian Boehmer and Cody Bontrager.”
