MP Track @ Keokuk
Six Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks competed at the Keokuk Relays Thursday, April 8.
Jaemin Powell and Ryan Hoffman competed in the open 100, 200 and 400 working on starts and getting some sprint work in. “I was very pleased with what these boys accomplished. It has been a tough week with cold weather and windy conditions and they faired well,” said Head Coach Steve Hollan.
Powell placed second in the 200 and 400 m dash at 24.27 and 55.21 respectively and finished third in the 100 m dash at 11.61. Hoffman finished first in the 400 m dash at 54.97, second in the 100 m dash at 11.56, and fourth in the 200 m dash at 24.82.
“Tanner Miller went with one goal and that was to drop his 400 last time and he did just that with no competition,” said coach Hollan. Miller went into the meet with a time of 55.35 and dropped it to 54.57 taking first place uncontested. Drake only takes the top eight in this event in the entire state over all classes. “Based on past years performances it looks to be a good enough time but we won’t until the end of this week,” said coach Hollan.
The only other event for the Golden Hawks was the 4×400 relay of Miller, Justin Hochstetler, Tyler Asbe and Quinn Hollan. “This group of guys went into the race with a time of 3:29.84, with the goal to drop the time and better their changes of getting into the Drake Relays with only 24 teams in the state invited,” said coach Hollan. They dropped their time to 3:29.32 for a first place finish but will have to wait to see if it’s good enough.
The Hawks will compete next at home in the Hawk Relays Friday, April 16.
