Jake wrestled at the annual Iowa State Wrestling Tournament last week held at the Wells Fargo Arena. This marks the 4th year that Wells Fargo has hosted the event. It sure was a roller coaster ride, but one marked with many memorable moments. Jake opened the tournament against Joe Sievert, the eventual State Champion. Sievert was an amazingly tough opponent. He controlled all of his opponents en route to his state championship. Jake had a hard time stopping Sievert.
In Jake’s first wrestleback match, Sommerlot took Jake down late in the first period off of Jake’s attempt at a foot sweep. Jake lost his balance and Sommerlot took advantage of it. Sommerlot escaped at the start of the second period, to extend his lead 3-0 over Jake. However, opportunity struck when Jake stepped in and hip-tossed Sommerlot to his back for a five point move. Jake
totally caught Sommerlot off guard with that hip-toss, and changed the complexion of that match. Jake secured two more takedowns in the third period to win 10-6. It was good for Jake to get the sails right back on course.

Highland wrestlers Jesse Hahn, Zach Frank, Todd Hahn, Cody Schneider, and Jake Walton advanced to the district round held at New London February 14, 2009. The following are comments from Coach Clint Jones about each wrestler.
103 Jesse Hahn - Jesse sure wrestled hard on Saturday, but unfortunately, came up three points shy of heading to Des Moines. In his first match against Farris, Farris hit a Kelly for a five point move, that wound up being the difference in the match. Jesse kept wrestling, and scrambled well the remaining part of the match. It was just hard to overcome that five point deficit from the first period. He made quick work of his Van Buren opponent in the 3rd and 4th place match. Then came his second opportunity to get to Des Moines via a wrestleback at 103 against Bukk (Belle Plaine).

Ainsworth ESO met Tuesday, February 10.  A representative from The Chip Shoppe was in attendance to share products for the fall fundraiser.  Several other fundraising companies have sent information for consideration.  A decision will be made in the coming months as to which company will be used in the fall.  Robin Craig and Kristi Bean are serving as co-chairs for the fall 2009 fundraiser.
The treasurer’s report was given.  There were no bills presented for payment.  At this time there are no requests for consideration.
The Cricut machine that ESO purchased earlier in the year has been put to good use, so much that the pads are in need of being replaced.  Brenda was given permission to purchase replacement pads as needed.
ESO had voted in the fall to purchase a sound system for the school.  Mrs. Goodwin would like to use the money she was awarded from Walmart toward a sound system as well.  ESO will contribute funds up to $1,000 for a new sound system.  We will work with Mrs. Goodwin to find the best equipment for the school.

Three Highland wrestlers went to Ft. Madison to compete in a Regional Qualifier event to qualify for USA State and National Folkstyle Wrestling Tournament.
