Riverside Council, Monday, agreeing with its planning and zoning commission recommendations, approved the site plan for Kum & Go. Representatives of Kum & Go, L.C. present were Josh House and Brett A. Johnson, engineer.
House explained that the plan is like Kum & Go sites in Tipton and Grinnell. They chose to build along Highway 218, because with the addition of future sites in Tiffon and North Liberty, it would cover the four corners of travel along a main highway.
The council approved the changes and updates to the site plan including a wider radius of the driveway to accommodate semi trucks. Johnson agreed to work at getting internal locations for fire hydrants requested by the Riverside Fire Department. Although it was not included in the original plan, Johnson also agreed to include a sprinkler system which, as of 2006, became an international fire code and was part of the city’s commercial design.
Mariellen Bower made a motion for the site plan and PZ recommendations to be approved. All council members were present and approved the site plan. Kum & Go, L.C. plans to break ground in late July after the bids are received, and with a maximum of 90 days (three months) construction, hopes to be operational by early fall. The plan includes a Subway deli.
