Elmer Anthony Metz, 84, of Lone Tree, Iowa, died Thursday, October 30, 2008, in the Lone Tree Health Care Center.
Funeral services were Monday, November 3, 2008, in the St. MaryÕs Catholic Church in Lone Tree. Rev. Vitalis Torwel and Parish Life Coordinator Carol Kaalberg officiated. Elmer Anthony Metz was born June 11, 1924, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of Simon F. and Hortense (Bulger) Metz. June 19, 1948, he was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Musser in Lone Tree. He was a farmer from 1948 to 2001. Mr. Metz was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lone Tree. His family and friends will remember him as a kind and loving father who loved farming, trucks, and his dog, Oreo.
He is survived by his children, Linda Johnson and her husband, Bill, Iowa City, Iowa; Barb Oldfield and her husband, Duane, Iowa City; Patricia Weimer and her husband, Alan, Waynesville, Ohio; and Becky Grantier and her husband, Dave, Winnett, Montana; a daughter-in-law, Rose Metz, Iowa City; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Metz and his wife, Muriel, Riverside, Iowa; and James Metz and his wife, Rajet, Davenport, Iowa; four sisters, Ann Walsh, Davenport; Donna Stumpf and her husband, Peter, Morse, Iowa; Dorothy Brophy, Milan, Illinois; and Vivian Kleinschmidt and her husband, John, Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn Metz; a son, David Metz; two sisters, Mary Magdalene and Gladys Kron; and four brothers, Eddie Metz, Jerry Metz, Melvin Metz, and Urban Metz.
