Arthur “Art” Schreiber

1924 – 2009
Arthur James “Art” Schreiber, 84, of Wapello, Iowa, formerly of Lone Tree, Iowa, and Muscatine, Iowa, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, in the Great River Hospice House at West Burlington, Iowa.
Following cremation, a funeral was held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. Carol Kaalberg, Parish Life Coordinator, Church of St. Mary’s of Lone Tree and Nichols, officiated. The family greeted friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for the Great River Hospice House and the Wapello Community Ambulance Service has been established.
Arthur James Schreiber was born August 11, 1924, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Arthur George and Lydia Wonick Schreiber. He was united in marriage to Alice Heidelbaugh Bieber September 26, 1970. He was a graduate of Iowa City High and farmed in the Lone Tree area. Later he worked in maintenance at GPC and Thatcher Glass, both in Muscatine. He moved to Wapello in 1970. He was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Schreiber is survived by his wife, Alice Schreiber; eight children, Rebecca “Becky” Green, Lone Tree; Kathleen (Roger) Slycord, Muscatine; Patricia “Pat” (Jerry) Sexton, Lone Tree; James “Jim” Schreiber, Nichols, Iowa; Thomas “Tom” (Dixie) Schreiber, Columbus Junction, Iowa; William “Bill” (Nancy) Schreiber, Muscatine; and Elizabeth “Betty” (Bill) Gerot, Hills, Iowa; two step-daughters, Linda (Glen) Gage, Portland, Oregon; and Sandie (Roger) Eide, Gernee, Illinois; 65 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Schreiber, Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mary Richards.
