A celebration of life service was held Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Richmond, Iowa, with Fr. Rich Adam officiating. Burial was in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Richmond. William K. Riggan was born March 15, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Henry and Amanda Seering Riggan. He attended Lone Tree High School and was a farmer. He was a member of the Iowa Pork Producers and served on many committees as well as serving as president in 1985. He was honored at Iowa Master Pork Producer and National Pork All American in 1980. He served on the Agricultural Advisory Committee for the Federal Reserve Board of Chicago. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was past president of the Parish Council and was also a trustee. He served for 24 years on the Kalona Cooperative Telephone Company Board and was a director of the Kalona Savings Bank and First Interstate Bank. At the time of his death, Mr. Riggan was on the Lincoln Mutual Insurance Board of Directors in Lone Tree, Iowa. He received the Jaycee Outstanding Young Farmer award and is in the Feeder Pig Hall of Fame. August 27, 1960, he was united in marriage to Barbara Dawson in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lone Tree.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Riggan, Washington; his children Madonna (Mark) Swartzentruber, Riverside, Iowa; Cindy (Ronnie) Hershberger, Wellman; Gregg (Dianne) Riggan, Washington; Brian Riggan, Kalona; Jane (Derek) Koppen, Lakota, Iowa; and Margo (Jared) Duwa, Kalona; 24 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Richard (Lois) Riggan, Ainsworth, Iowa; Larry (Karma) Riggan, Des Moines, Iowa; Michael (Diane) Riggan, Muscatine, Iowa; and Kenny (Jan) Riggan, Ainsworth; five sisters, Marcia (Melvin) Blakemore, Clark, Missouri; Carol (Jim) Johnson, Lone Tree; Elizabeth (Gary) Droll, Colorado; Virginia (Lonnie) Lee, Avon, Illinois; and Sandra (Jack) Kleckner, Kingfisher, Oklahoma; four sisters-in-law, Sharon Riggan, Tiffin, Iowa; Delores Riggan, Riverside; Margaret Riggan, West Liberty, Iowa; Linda Riggan, Lone Tree; and one brother-in-law, Richard Knebel, Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Earl Riggan, David Riggan, James Riggan, Lyle Riggan, and Ronald Riggan; and three sisters, Jeanette Riggan, Judith Pritchett, and Nancy Knebel.
