Highland girls top WACO
The Highland girls’ basketball team defeated WACO on the road 47-29 Tuesday, January 26.
The win came despite a lackluster performance from the girls. Highland coach Jody Fink said, “It just looked as if we didn’t want to be here. We had no fire or communication throughout the game. We never shoot well at WACO, and tonight was no different.”

Highland led 11-7 after one quarter, and the halftime score was 29-13, Highland. WACO outscored the Huskies in the third quarter, 10-7, but Highland outscored WACO in the final quarter 11-6.
Anna Sweeting was the only Highland player to score in double figures with 14 points. She also led in rebounds with 14 for a double-double game. Molly Metz and Brittney Gerot each scored nine points. Mollie Kleopfer led in assists with six and in steals with four.
Coach Fink said, “We need to finish around the basket and that would help our free throw percentage. We took better care of the ball but lacked intensity.
“We were more patient tonight, but we need to figure out when to be patient and when to attack.”
